That's right, I bought some Monster High dolls! After two weeks of thinking about it, I went ahead and got two girls on sale.I got Gigi Grant from the 13 Wishes series and the Scaris version of Frankie Stein.<br />

Surprisingly, the MH girls can wear the Disney Fairy and Winx clothes. Frankie is wearing Bratz Boyz (?) sunglasses, a Bratz (?) jacket and Rosetta's dress. Gigi is wearing Periwinkle's jacket, my 11cm Obitsu's dress as a shirt and the leggings from my Winx Bloom.<br />
<br />
<br />
So far I'm very impressed with them and I'm looking forward to repainting Frankie.Nellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01967236243742575392noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6663065555313921172.post-8201748541587587492014-08-08T14:58:00.001-05:002014-08-08T14:58:49.050-05:00My Craziest Project to DateI mentioned way back in my first post that I would show what I've done so far on my most ambitious doll project. Basically, I'm blushing a full mini BJD (43cm tall or so) a cool brown using pastels, and reshaping the breasts to be flatter on top, fuller on the bottom and overall smaller. The doll I'm using is a <a href="http://www.bobobie.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5&products_id=111" target="_blank">Bobobie Pixie</a> in normal skin.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
This doll was originally another character, who also has a very dramatic look, but since I'm reshelling her, I created a new character for the Pixie. Here's a picture of the previous character, on different company's body:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Dolls/013_zpsbc129823.jpg~original" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Dolls/013_zpsbc129823.jpg~original" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
After deciding to create a new character from scratch for the Bobobie Pixie, now known as Nagisa the Ice Sprite, I did a mock-up of her new look. Note the blackened nose tip and ears points. Nagisa is a creature of winter and has harp seal pup markings, including dots for eyebrows.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Dolls/018_zps404d6dd8.jpg~original" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Dolls/018_zps404d6dd8.jpg~original" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And here's what Nagisa looks like right now!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Dolls/051_zps6b010d9e.jpg~original" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Dolls/051_zps6b010d9e.jpg~original" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
Now I <i>am</i> going to redo the faceup, since I'm not happy with how the paint looks. Usually I use pastels almost exclusively, to have a softer, more natural look. I may omit the eyeshadow entirely and do the eyelashes in white. I was very much experimenting, especially since I was painting 8 other faceups at the same time.<br />
<br />
The pastel coat did the job. It only took two or three layers of pastel to get the right shade. Boy, did it make a difference<br />

I took the opportunity to do my first overpaint. I haven't had a chance to do a full repaint yet since it turns out I don't have any yellow paint so I can't do Fire's face yet. Behold, Periwinkle with new eyebrows, eyes and no gel in her hair!<br />

No, the doll I planned to get when I walked into Toys R Us that day was the TRU exclusive Winx Bloom with Scooter. Well after I couldn't find her in stores, which wasn't a surprise as she was on clearance for roughly 50% off, I ordered her from toyrus.ca. I also bought the Barbie Life In the Dreamhouse vanity playset so I qualified for free shipping.<br />
<br />
I've been putting off writing about this doll since I got her because, well, she's not what I was expecting. I've very glad that I ended up getting my two Disney girls, because they are so much nicer than the Winx girl, even though the two products were both made by Jakks Pacific.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Dolls/Fashion%20Doll/065_zpsd41e1dc8.jpg~original" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Dolls/Fashion%20Doll/065_zpsd41e1dc8.jpg~original" height="300" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Bloom in 90s Barbie top, Oz the Great and Powerful hat, stock leggings and shoes</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
Let's talk about the good points first. Her outfit is well made and the scooter is fabulous. The box art is very nice and I've been able to use it as an outdoor street scene for display. The body is accurate to the animations style of the show. For those that don't know, the girls in Winx have extremely long legs, thin limbs and very narrow waists. The doll's build mimics this, though the breasts and upper torso are such that, when clothed, Bloom looks almost flat-chested.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Dolls/Fashion%20Doll/087_zpseb841348.jpg~original" height="300" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="400" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Front view</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
There are some serious flaws that soured this girl for me. One of the big reasons I decided to get her was that she is articulated. However, while the jointing of the legs and knees is great, the jointing of the upper body is lacking. She can barely use the elbow joints and her head can only turn from side to side, not up and down. Her hands are large, which can cause difficulties in getting her dressed, but the wrist movement is smooth at least.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Dolls/Fashion%20Doll/098_zpse1a408e8.jpg~original" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Dolls/Fashion%20Doll/098_zpse1a408e8.jpg~original" height="300" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Side view</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
Her face looks odd and has a flat profile. Plus the eyes aren't raised, which only adds to the flat look of her. Her hair is coarse and tangles if you look at it wrong. Her two long strands of hair by her face were gelled into solid strips. The head itself is rock hard.<br />
<br />
Like the title of this entry says, I have been inspired. I have been inspired to turn this lack-luster disappointment into something that is wholly mine. <br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Dolls/Fashion%20Doll/108_zpse6518bb7.jpg~original" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Dolls/Fashion%20Doll/108_zpse6518bb7.jpg~original" height="300" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Concept sketch and original doll</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
So the idea is turn her into a fire-and-ashes creature, with grey skin, three yellow half circle eyes, thicker eyebrows and shorter hair. I've got a lot of work ahead of me but hey, might as well jump right in, eh?<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Time for part 2 of my first review! This go around I'm focussing on <i>Pirate Fairy </i>Periwinkle. I apologise that a number of the photos are dark and/or grainy. I'm still learning where the best spots are for light in the house and such.<br />

<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
Now just for fun, to see how the Canadian release differs from the American release, I visited the <a href="http://www.jakks.com/">official Jakks Pacific </a>website. While the dolls appear to be identical on both sides of the border, the box art isn't. The Canadian version has Tinkerbell on every box, whereas the US box has an image of the fairy that the doll represents.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Canadian Verison</td></tr>

The box art isn't the only strange thing about this doll. Take a look at the dolls pictured on the back of the box.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Disney%20Fairies/9_zpsba07514b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Disney%20Fairies/9_zpsba07514b.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Wait a moment...</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
The Periwinkle on the back has a different face than the actual doll! Her belt is also a darker blue. It's the face that shocked me though, since both the US and Canadian dolls have forward-facing eyes and large smiles. The doll on the back however has side-glancing eyes and a small closed mouth.<br />
<br />
The basic versions of the Fairies do have different molds than the Deluxe fashion doll versions, so maybe those are the pre-production models for the line? It's disappointing though, since it would appear that each doll was originally going to have a unique face mold. <br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Disney%20Fairies/34_zps1f373871.jpg~original" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Disney%20Fairies/34_zps1f373871.jpg~original" height="300" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><i>Pirate Fairy </i>Periwinkle next to <i>Celebrate Pixie Party</i> Rosetta</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Instead, Periwinkle uses the same face sculpt as Rosetta, though the facepaint is different. She has arched, thin, brown eyebrows, pale lilac eyeshadow and light pink lipstick.<br />
<br />
The body is the same as Rosetta's, with her leaf-print underwear painted pale blue instead of magenta. Neither of Periwinkle's knee joints are loose, but I suspect that the tightness of the joints isn't something that is easily generalised. One of Periwinkle's elbow joints is slightly looser than the other, it doesn't affect her posing at all.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Periwinkle has an interesting hairstyle, an updo that pulls into a
point with centre-parted bangs. It's hard with gel so that it keeps its
shape. While the hair is gelled so heavily that it's almost solid, the
head itself stills squishes under pressure, unlike Rosetta.<br />

I'm
curious about the rooting pattern and I'm seriously thinking of letting
her hair down. My guess is that there is a huge bald spot in the middle
of the back of the head though. So that might be not a wise decision,
if I go through with it.<br />
<br />
Now on to the fashion! Like the previous Fairy I reviewed, Periwinkle
comes with a jacket, wings (which attach to the jacket), a dress, a belt
and shoes, or boots in this case. The full contents of the box are

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The outfit</td></tr>

<br />
Perwinkle's colour is blue and boy is there a lot of blue in this outfit. Other than the white underskirt of the dress and the gold accents of the jacket and belt, everything is blue. The same shade of blue to boot! The pre-production version aka the version on the back of the box at least had more variety in shades of blue.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Open belt and side view of the boots</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The boots and belt are made of a flexible plastic and are nicely detailed. Once again, the finished product differs significantly from the photos on the back of the box. Seriously, if they changed the doll that much, why didn't they change the picture on the back? I never would've known about the modifications if they hadn't left the original version on the back. The boots are different mold than the ones pre-production Periwinkle wears. Instead of being a unique mold, they look to be Zarina's boots in blue instead of brown. They are knee-high, with creases and knives (maybe?) on the calves.<br />

<br />
There is a long slit down the back of each boot, which makes them easy
to put on the doll. The slits stay reasonably closed during use. The
back of the boot, much like the sides, have some interesting details
such as a large buckle. <br />

<br />
<br />
Periwinkle's belt is one piece, with two crossed bands with molded stitches, and a golden snowflake in the centre. Periwinkle is a Frost Fairy, which explains the snowflake, her hair and the abundance of blue and white in all her outfits.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The dress on its own</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The dress has three layers. There is a long, white lower layer, that is cut jaggedly, a middle layer of pale, sparkly blue tulle and a short, shiny blue top layer. Only the top layer has finished edges, though the material of bottom and middle layers shouldn't fray. The bodice of the dress is a slightly darker blue than the top layer, with a stripe of white and a ruffled edge. The dress has thick clear straps, so there's no chance of Periwinkle flashing anyone by accident. The dress pulls up on one side, most likely due to how the back seam was sewn.<br />
<br />
Oddly enough, the entire back seam, which connects the three layers
together, was sewn in blue thread. This thread is visible on the white
bottom layer, even when the dress is on the doll.<br />

The velcro closes very nicely on its own, but when its on the doll, a strange issue becomes apparent. That's right, the velcro doesn't fully close if it's on a doll. Not just any doll, the doll it was specifically made for. Periwinkle thankfully doesn't have long hair that could get stuck on it, but velcro and doll hair do not get along.<br />

<br />
The jacket made of a soft, velvet-like blue fabric, with gold trim. It has a upturned collar and cuffs. Unfortunately, I've had no luck putting it back on Periwinkle since I removed it to redress her. Whoopsie! The wings attach via velcro, with the hook side being on the wings and the soft side being on the back of the jacket.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Periwinkle's wings on the left, Rosetta's wings on the right</td></tr>

The wings themselves are fairly similar to Rosetta's wings. Periwinkle's have a less busy design and are have a more understated patten when they catch the light. The two wings are the same shape.<br />

I love the faces and smiles of these girls, so when I saw that there are jointed versions, I bit the bullet and bought my first fashion dolls. What better opportunity could there be to write my first review?<br />

<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>Jakks Pacific makes both articulated and non-articulated dolls for a variety of franchises. The two dolls I'm reviewing today are their articulated Disney Fairies dolls. The Disney fairies consist of Tinkerbell and her friends Periwinkle, Rosetta, Fawn, Silvermist, Iridessa and Vidia. On April 1st, the movie <i>The Pirate Fairy</i> was released and introduced a new character called Zarina. To see more about the fairies, and clips from the movies, see the <a href="http://fairies.disney.com/">official homepage</a>.<br />
<br />
The boxes are very similar. Both have clear fronts that fully display the dolls. In the corner, there are two photos of the line's Tinkerbell that advertises the fact that the dolls are articulated. There is a CG illustration of Tink on the side. The packaging is eye-catching. The only thing is that there is a huge contrast between the pictures of the doll versions of Tinkerbell and the CG picture. These dolls are adorable and sweet in their own right, but they aren't faithful translations of the characters from the movies.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Pirate Fairy Periwinkle (left) and Celebrate Pixie Party Rosetta</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The back is full of information on the specific line and has photos of the other dolls. The Pirate Fairy Periwinkle is from the direct-to-video movie I mentioned above, so there's a brief synopsis of the story. Rosetta is from <i>Celebrate Pixie Party</i>, a fairly standard concept for a fashion doll release. Tink and her friends are going to a party, it's as simple as that.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">4 dolls in each line, with Tinkerbell, Periwinkle and Rosetta as recurring characters</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The front and back of the box are one continuous piece. The itself is attached to the cardboard insert.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Disney%20Fairies/3_zpsa8652d6a.jpg~original" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Disney%20Fairies/3_zpsa8652d6a.jpg~original" height="300" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I'm keeping that insert for photoshoots. It's pretty and suits the party theme well</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
There wasn't much tape to remove.. There were four plastic tabs that were taped down. One is holding her left arm in place, one is attached to the little pictures of Tinkerbell that advertise the articulation, and the last two, the largest, hold the plastic backing that the doll sits in.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Disney%20Fairies/4_zps6da67670.jpg~original" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Disney%20Fairies/4_zps6da67670.jpg~original" height="300" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Back of the cardboard insert</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The next two pictures are of Periwinkle, since I forgot to take pictures of Rosetta while she was still attached to the plastic container. The doll is tied into the plastic conatiner by a variety of means. The heavy twine is wrapped around the middle of the torso underneath the clothing. The blue thread you see is to keep the belt from rising up. One hand is free while the other is attached to the backing by an elastic band. Her feet are held down by ties and the tips of her wings slid into the slots of the plastic holder. The only thing that was difficult to remove from both dolls was the plastic ties that were punched into their heads. I was able to pull most of it out of Rosetta but I had to resign myself to the fact that I couldn't do the same with Periwinkle.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Disney%20Fairies/12_zps3d7cdc39.jpg~original" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Disney%20Fairies/12_zps3d7cdc39.jpg~original" height="400" width="300" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The back of the plastic insert</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Now enough about the packaging, on to the clothing! From this point forward, we will focus on Rosetta. Periwinkle will get her time in the spotlight in the next review.<br />
<br />
Rosetta's outfit consists of a red dress with white polkadot and a pink over-skirt, a pair of sheer coral tights with gold sparkly dots, wedge shoes, a white jacket with pink stripes and her wings. I mistakenly put Periwinkle's wings with Rosetta's outfit, since the only different is the pattern. Whoopsie!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Disney%20Fairies/17_zps34849c07.jpg~original" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Disney%20Fairies/17_zps34849c07.jpg~original" height="300" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The full outfit, with Periwinkles' wings by accident</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I have to say, I'm really impressed with the quality of all the pieces. Almost all the edges and seams are finished, while the edges that <i>aren't</i> are made of material that doesn't fray. Plus, the dress has clear straps to keep the dress firmly on while not being overly visible during play or in photos.<br />
<br />
Both her shoes and belt of made of a slightly soft plastic. This
makes them very easy to put on. Her wedge shoes are a coral pink that
are supposed to look like wood. Her belt is designed to look like many strands of plants have been woven together.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Disney%20Fairies/18_zpsb31567b0.jpg~original" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Disney%20Fairies/18_zpsb31567b0.jpg~original" height="400" width="300" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The plastic accessories</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Of course, no Disney fairy would be complete without a pair of wings and
Jakks Pacific has come up with an interesting way to attach them.
Instead of have the wings attach directly to the doll, as they did with
Winx, they attach to the jacket of the doll with a square of velcro. The
hook side is on the wings, which are one piece of sparkly plastic,
while the soft side is on the jacket. This means that the doll's hair
doesn't get caught on the back of the jacket, which is always a plus.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Disney%20Fairies/19_zps2745ab2c.jpg~original" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Disney%20Fairies/19_zps2745ab2c.jpg~original" height="300" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Periwinkles' wings and Rosetta's jacket</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I did run into a problem with the wings, as nicely designed as I find them. The problem is that Rosetta has long hair, so either you have to place it behind the opening of the wings, or around the velcro, which is very messy. Neither way looks very nice or stands up to much playing. I didn't plan to use the wings often but it seems odd that such an important part of the Disney character can't really be used easily.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Rosetta in full outfit, with her hair put in front of her wings</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Now for the real reason I caved and got these two: articulated bodies!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Disney%20Fairies/20_zpse0424312.jpg~original" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Disney%20Fairies/20_zpse0424312.jpg~original" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
The Deluxe Fashion dolls, as they are called on the Jakks Pacific website, have 11 points of articulation: head, shoulders, elbows, wrists, legs and the knees. They have large heads and small hands and feet. The head is soft, the body is hard and the hands are much harder than the head but have more give then the feet. Rosetta has molded panties, with a leaf print and painted pink. There is a paint defect, in that two dots of pink paint are on one of her breasts. <br />

The back has four lines of copyright information. In white, are some numbers. Just above the underwear it says: ©Disney ©2013 Jakks MADE IN CHINA. There are two lines from being removed from the mold but I'm used to seams on my BJDs which are far more prominent.<br />
<br />
Range of motion testing time! Rosetta has one lower leg that is a bit looser than the other but otherwise, the joints are tight. I was afraid to move them too much though, since they are basically hinge joints. I'm much more comfortable with ball-joints strung with elastic then pegs and hinges.<br />

Overall, Rosetta has a decent range of motion. I know that I would've flipped for a doll this poseable when I was younger. Something of note is the shape of the feet.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Disney%20Fairies/30_zpsa63d9f74.jpg~original" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Disney%20Fairies/30_zpsa63d9f74.jpg~original" height="300" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">These feet cause problems</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
As you can see in the photos, the feet are made to wear heels and heels only. While this is a common design choice for fashion dolls, it does make Rosetta hard to stand. Unlike Monster High and Ever After High, Disney Fairies don't come with stands, so Rosetta has to be propped up to prevent herself from toppling over. I mentioned before that this particular girl has one looser knee, which makes standing even more of an issue.<br />
<br />
So if standing isn't the best idea, what about sitting?<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Disney%20Fairies/31_zps5ce97669.jpg~original" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Disney%20Fairies/31_zps5ce97669.jpg~original" height="300" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Sitting in the chair from the Barbie <i>Life in the Dreamhouse</i> vanity playset</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
That is the most upright that she can sit. Her legs can't bend <span lang="EN-CA" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-CA;">at 90° angle, her back is curved and it just doesn't look very proper.</span><br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Disney%20Fairies/23_zpsc5497c44.jpg~original" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Disney%20Fairies/23_zpsc5497c44.jpg~original" height="400" width="300" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Smile for the camera!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span lang="EN-CA" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-CA;">I love Rosetta's friendly face. She has a toothy smile, magenta lipstick, silver eyeshadow with a line of pink above the lid, green eyes and straight eyebrows. Unfortunately, the camera I'm having to use for the moment doesn't let me do closeups but the screening is flawless. There is a tiny speck of gloss between her hairline and her eyebrow, but it is extremely hard to miss.</span><br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Rosetta's profile</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span lang="EN-CA" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-CA;">Rosetta has pointed ears and a button nose. Her hair is soft, though not as silky as my Obistu. The hair is a mix of burgundy and a slightly brighter red, which gives a certain amount of depth. </span><br />
<br />
<span lang="EN-CA" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-CA;">Rosetta's hair is long, with a wave curls under at the end. She has two braids that tie at the back of her head. </span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Back of head</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span lang="EN-CA" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-CA;"> The rooting is thick around the face, at the base of the head and the crown. Once you move the braids away from the rest of the head, you can see how the rooting pattern changes.</span><br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Huh</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span lang="EN-CA" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-CA;">The rest of the head is much more sparsely rooted and the scalp is painted red so that it's less noticeable. </span><br />
<br />
<span lang="EN-CA" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-CA;">And with that, we end the review! Phew, that took a long time. All in all, I'm pleased with my impulse buy and am already making silly stories up to amuse myself.</span><br />

There's a lot of photos and writing still to go. Here's a quick image I made using a online game that allows you to make scenes in the style of the Disney Fairy movies. So here's one of Little Nell, my author-insert from my stories, and myself.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Made using the Pixie maker by Azaleasdolls.com and dolldivine.com</td></tr>

I got part of my Toy R Us yesterday and the other part should arrive on Monday. Here are the girls with the Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse vanity set. I'm going to repaint it, since well, it's a lot of pink.<br />

I was eyeing some Monster High and Barbie dolls that were on sale at the grocery store by my work, but nothing I saw was what I wanted to shell out 15$ on. I struck out at the thrift stores earlier in the week but today, I got what I was looking for! I'm glad I hadn't bid on any of the Liccas, PJs or Francies I was looking at on eBay after all.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Disney%20Fairies/1_zpseebf38bb.jpg~original" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m152/FastFeetNella/Disney%20Fairies/1_zpseebf38bb.jpg~original" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I got these two smiling girls from Toys R Us for 30% off. They're highly articulated, so I can't wait to start playing with the jointing. I'll have a review of them up in a few days.<br />

I guess you can't go wrong with a simple introduction, so let's go ahead with that!<br />
<br />
Hello anyone who has stumbled upon this page, I'm Nella. Well, that's not my <i>real </i>name but <i>that</i> one is so common that a nickname is absolutely necessary. I'm a doll collector and have loved dolls my whole life. I currently have 15 ball-jointed-dolls in a variety of sizes, a Pose doll, an 11cm Obitsu doll, a small handful of childhood dolls and a collection of about 10 anime figures.<br />
<br />
As for what this site will contain, it'll be full of me talking about new doll releases, customization projects, plans for my collection and maybe reviews too. My writing about characters, who my dolls embody, is on other platforms, so I don't foresee myself writing them in this blog. <br />
<br />
To be honest, I'm not sure how frequently this blog will be updated. I have a Livejournal (fastfeetnella.livejournal.com) where I talk life, dolls and writing, a Youtube channel (NellaCuriosity) for dolls and characters, and other sites for sharing photos. I mostly wanted to have a Blogger to interact some of my favourite doll collectors in an easier manner. Hey, why don't you check them out? The links are under 'My Blog List' on the side panel.<br />
<br />
Okay, that's it! Nella out!Nellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01967236243742575392noreply@blogger.com7
